Six years after going missing, a dog comes home.

Near the end of October, a woman brought King, a small brown Chihuahua mix, into the Humane Society of Broward County (HSBC). At the age of 15, the senior dog first discovered himself in a shelter. However, what would have been a nightmare for other puppies when the animal shelter examined King for a microchip ended up being a blessing in disguise.
King had a loving family waiting for him more than 1,300 miles away, as it turned out.

The little puppy was getting closer to returning home, but he was unaware of it. He was quite quiet, reserved, and anxious, like most dogs in an unfamiliar setting.

According to Cherie Wachter, HSBC’s vice president of marketing, The Dodo. King was regarded as being quite sweet by all.
Six years ago, King vanished from the yard of the Vasquez family in San Antonio, Texas. They made flyers, distributed them online, and kept making fruitless trips to the local shelter. They persisted in holding on to King’s collar, never losing hope that their paths might one day cross again.

The shelter phoned the family and left a note informing them that their long-lost dog was waiting for them. According to Wachter, when they called again an hour later, they were overjoyed to learn that King was still alive and well.

When Debi and her daughter called the airlines and learned there wouldn’t be any flights until the end of the week, they decided to fly to Florida to pick up King.

After spending six long years apart, King’s owner finally entered the building, shocking him.
As the family traveled to Dania Beach to view the Atlantic Ocean, King began to relax. For the first time, the young puppy seemed to comprehend that his family won’t be departing this time.

King then “began to really interact with his family and was prancing about the beach,” according to Wachter. It was great to see the tiny child make such a joyful change.
