The blind canine Tika was found in a Los Angeles back alley, evidently shaken by his experience on the streets. He was saved by a canine rescue group that also managed to track down his owners.
The $20 return fee enraged the owners even though they promised to return it. The owners of Tika vehemently objected to paying even the lowest amount, claiming the dog was “not worth it.” Since his loved ones had deserted him, Tika’s heart had been broken.
When no one indicated an interest in adopting her blind dog, Tika became even more frustrated. The director of the shelter initially took Tika in. He was taken care of by a local woman named Haidi after several months of healing.
For Haidi, Tika was a welcome surprise. She was hesitant to permanently adopt the blind dog, but she soon realized that Tika was much like her other dogs—playful and full of life.
Now that Tika is in his forever home with adoring family members and canine siblings, he is content. Dogs have strong all-around senses of smell, and their ability to smell is unaffected by blindness, which is something that people occasionally forget.
