With Dutch photographer, Alice van Kempen, 48, Claire, a three-year-old bull terrier, traverses the globe while posing for pictures in derelict structures.

With her dog by her side, Alice pursues her passion for urban exploring by traveling the globe in search of abandoned locations to photograph.
“I’ve never seen a Bull Terrier or any other dog like Claire; she truly enjoys modeling.”

She’s also brilliant because she sometimes needs to remain completely still for long periods of time without blinking or moving an inch. The egg-shaped head, the piercing sparkle in their coal-black eyes, the powerful bodies, and the playful nature of Bull terriers are all distinctive features.
After being motivated to take up photography more seriously by a visit to the deserted town of Doel, Alice came up with the idea of photographing Claire.

“It was my first experience with urban exploration, and I soon realized that taking pictures of Claire in various settings would be interesting. Because I am confident in Claire’s ability to defend me in such a situation, I always feel secure having her at my side.”
From her house, Alice looks into potential shooting locations, taking her time to find the ideal shot. Although Alice says she’s taken her time perfecting her methods, she has learned more in the past two years than ever before.
“Once we’re inside, we inspect the structure from top to bottom, and I always start taking pictures in the best location in the home first,” she added.”

Since 1998, Alice has worked as a freelance dog photographer for publications, pet food manufacturers, and book publishers.
