The manager showed them three just-arrived kittens from the suburbs when they went to the shelter to adopt a cat. The names of the kittens included Arthur, Hercules, and Apolo.
Emma went to get a carrier for them and laid it down on the floor with a blanket after the couple said they would be adopting Arthur. They reported that when they were returning home, Arthur was purring loudly in the carrier.
The couple was surprised to discover a “free rider” inside the carrier when they opened it at their home with Arthur! It was Heracles the cat, and Arthur was hugging and purring loudly next to him.
Emma claimed that Heracles entered the carrier while she was carrying Arthur. Due to the dim lighting in the room and his all-black clothes, neither Emma nor his wife saw him in the carrier.
Emma was preparing to see them in the morning when they abruptly called to say they had changed their minds. Apolo, the kitten that was still in the shelter, was adopted by a different family.
