After barking at a passing RSPCA van to stop, a brave dog was able to save himself.

The theft of Yorkshire terriers Lillie and Alfie from their Wednesbury, West Midlands, home last month prompted owner Kirsty Mitton and friends to search frantically for the two dogs.

Alfie was abandoned in a wooded area more than 100 miles from his home in Gerrard’s Cross, Bucks, while Lillie is still missing.
Alfie was brave because he ran into a nearby deserted road to seek assistance rather than cowering in fear.

Alfie spotted RSPCA Inspector Stephanie Law’s van as she was traveling down Hawkswood Lane and began barking furiously in her direction.

Stephanie immediately came to a stop, opened the door, and let the frightened terrier enter.

“Alfie leaped out and started barking as if he was trying to catch my attention,” Stephanie recalled. “I was on a pretty desolate road.

“He jumped in as soon as I opened the door; it was as though he recognized my outfit.”

Alfie, a seven-year-old boy, was quickly identified as having been stolen thanks to a microchip scan, and arrangements were made for his relieved owner to receive him back.

“He’s a great dog, so I’m glad his tale had a nice conclusion,” the speaker said.

While 23-year-old Kirsty shared her joy for Alfie’s return, she begged everyone to continue hunting for Lilly, who is still missing.

“I’m over the moon to have him back,” she remarked, “since I didn’t think I’d see him again.”
