The puppy was born without front legs in December and was taken to Vintage Pet Rescue in Foster shortly after.
“Joey was born to a Connecticut family as a member of a litter. While his siblings were adopted, Joey’s particular requirements made it difficult for his new owners to know what to do with him. They contacted the Connecticut Humane Society, who then suggested they contact us. Although we had never taken in a canine lacking a front leg, we wanted to make sure Joey was placed in the best possible home “The founder and executive director of Vintage Pet Rescue, Kristen Peralta, tells PEOPLE about the history of Joey.

At the rescue, Joey’s “happy” disposition and “never-stopping wagging tail” are welcome sights. According to Peralta, the dog is adored by every resident of her retirement community, with one dog especially devoted to Joey.
Joey is strengthening his rear legs while he is a guest at Vintage Pet Rescue so that he can move about more easily. Overall, Peralta claims that Joey’s daily existence is unaffected “in the slightest” by the loss of his front legs.

“Joey can now ascend the stairs and sit on the couch. He enjoys playing with other dogs and stands on his hind legs. Joey will be fitted for a special wheelchair in a month or two so he can move about “she claims.
Following Joey’s wheelchair installation, Vintage Pet Rescue will begin looking for the dog’s ideal permanent home. Joey’s ideal home would have no stairs and loving parents who could provide a lot of support and encouragement.

Joey is already inspiring many animal lovers to learn a vital lesson and is certain to thrill his new owners.
The dog is also promoting the value of animal rescues, which Peralta thinks are more important than ever and deserve assistance.
