The two-year-old crossbreed dog, Duke, is eagerly awaiting adoption after being rescued from the streets of Romania and learning that his owner had passed away.

Duke’s former owner’s family sent him to the York, Harrogate & District Branch of the RSPCA because he had trouble adjusting to social situations. Duke is a beautiful little guy, but Mandy Broadhead, from the center, said: “He can be challenging. Once he gets to know you, he’s such a warm, loving, and friendly young man, yet he gets really nervous around strangers. Duke finds it quite difficult when new people enter the home, thus his future home will need to have few guests.

There has only been one application to Duke in the previous 10 months. It did not work out since he had trouble getting along with the rest of the family. Following his adoption, the RSPCA’s behaviorists are now assisting the dog in gaining confidence in new situations.

Duke is looking for a home where he can be left alone with adults only for brief periods of time and where there are no other pets.
