It is during the formative phases of a dog’s life that he has a lot of energy. Dogs may become destructive or misbehave if this energy is not channeled properly.

When Penny was just 10 weeks old, she was taken into a shelter as a stray. As a result of her disruptive behavior, she was repeatedly returned to the shelter as she moved from family to family. She needed someone to take the time to provide her with cerebral stimulation. Leonora Anzaldua immediately fell in love with her and adopted her.

Leonora decided to keep Penny cognitively occupied. Penny was shown how to sit by her mother. It only took Penny three tries to figure out the trick. By the age of eight months, Penny had mastered all the standard dog tricks. Taking things to the next level, Leonora decided to discover if a dog could truly think like a child. Penny was taught shapes using blocks by her mother. It didn’t take Penny long to learn how to fill out forms.

The rapid learning of Penny astonished Leonora, and she determined to find out if she could go any further. Penny was taught the alphabet using letter blocks she bought.
