During a severe frost, a street cat came to a fire station hoping someone would help her. When an attendant at the Steinbach Fire Department in Canada walked past and saw a small cat staring out the window, he was very surprised.

She stood outside the window on a cold evening. She ran straight to him when one of our firefighters went outside.” Under the window, the cat continued to sit without moving. She had nowhere to turn.

Fearing that the cat would freeze at night in a severe frost, firefighters let it into the room. The cat was better seen in the warmth, it was dirty and very hungry.

A purr was immediately responded to by the cat. A fire chief, Kelvin, who already had four cats at home, offered to temporarily house it. The next day, he took Amber to the vet for an examination. Despite mild frostbite on the ears, the veterinarian found the cat quite healthy.

Maybe someone lost her after I posted her photo and story on Facebook. After several days of no response, we took her back to the vet where she was vaccinated and found to have ear mites. Amber seemed to enjoy the attention she received during these examinations. In fact, Amber was supposed to be a station cat, but the station has days off when no duty officer is present, so there is no one to watch over her.

They then decided to find her a permanent owner. After posting her photos on Facebook, it appears we’ve already found her an owner,” Kelvin said.
