Rather than paying for his expensive treatment, owners decided to euthanize the dog after he was rescued from a fire by a firefighter

A routine call was taken by Iowa firefighter Malcolm Cortner in early September. There was a fire in a residential building. Fortunately, no one was injured.

However, one living creature fell into a fiery trap. The dog was a mastiff, one and a half years old. The dog was taken out of the fire by Malcolm. The dog was nearly unconscious when he pulled it away from the fire. He was immediately rescued by rescuers wearing oxygen masks specifically designed for cats and dogs. As soon as the dog breathed, he came to his senses.

Firefighters contacted the local animal care and control service. As a result, they came to a disappointing conclusion: the mastiff will live, but his treatment will be expensive and lengthy. In response to hearing the approximate amount needed, the owner waved his hand and said, “Put him down!” Although Malcolm Cortner had saved the creature at his own risk, he could not watch it die.

He felt the dog’s breath as he held him in his arms. As a result, he intervened. After being allowed to keep the dog, the firefighter promised to pay any bills. The city authorities granted permission, and the dog survived! His – now his – dog received the best care from Cortner. Two months later, George, the mastiff, was able to stand.

He looks perfectly healthy and happy now that he has made a new friend. On social media, the municipalities shared George’s double rescue story and two pictures of the dog. We hope that the owner of the dog will throw him a nice birthday party when he turns two.
