The only consolation we have in difficult times is our pets. It is especially important for older people who are left alone.

Ken Pendagraft, 80, was motivated to go outside by his 14-year-old dog. Friendship and unconditional love are also important. The neighbors described Ken as friendly and kind, but he kept everything to himself most of the time.

It was rare for him to leave the house. However, everything changed when his 14-year-old dog Zack became ill. The neighbors rallied to help Ken when he was losing his mind. Ken couldn’t afford to take Zach to the vet. Carol Bert, his neighbor, said he was in tears and couldn’t get past him. To help the poor old man save his best friend, Carol decided to share what happened on social media.

Carol’s publication was responded to by Elaine Seamans, founder of the At-Choo Foundation. Elaine did everything she could to save the dog. As a result of Zach’s severe diagnoses, he was unable to survive. The sad news didn’t end there, however.

Ken died of a heart attack soon after the pet died, unable to endure the loneliness he felt. It’s clear how much we rely on our pets and how deeply connected we are to them…
