A critically ill lynx kitten was taken to the Douglas Animal Hospital. In the barn, the predator was found late at night, and no one knew how long she had been there.

During the convulsions, the lynx’s body temperature dropped so low that the thermometer did not show it.A heater was used to warm the 1.5 kilogram lynx. After surviving the night, the kitten was still in critical condition the next day, so a blood transfusion was administered.

Doctors contacted a local shelter, which provided a cat named Smuckers for the procedure. In a quick examination, it was determined that the cat would be an ideal donor for the lynx.During the blood transfusion, the cat remained calm, according to a nurse named Courtney.

A four-hour process was used to infuse donor blood very slowly. In order to recognize signs of rejection of the biomaterial in time, doctors monitored the predator’s vital signs on monitors.Fortunately, nothing of the sort occurred. As a result of intensive drug therapy and tube feeding, the predator was on the mend by the end of the week.

The main thing now is that all systems are working again without any internal damage. Despite her weakness, the Atlantic Wildlife Institute charity is helping her eat and drink. The doctors call the ward a “real fighter” and are pleased with its progress.Hopefully, she will recover soon and be able to return to her natural habitat.

Smuckers’ sacrifice has not gone unnoticed.According to the Fredericton SPCA shelter, an owner was found for the cat after his heroic deed was widely known. Smuckers will soon move to a new location.
