Kuno, a Belgian Malinois, served in Afghanistan with the special forces. The dog helped the British military on the mission in every way possible and once even saved their lives. The nation’s government awarded the heroic canine a medal for his valor. The Victoria Cross, the highest military decoration awarded in the United Kingdom, is comparable to the medal.
Additionally, it’s a recognition of valor in a battle situation.
The dog was close to a special forces unit in Afghanistan in 2019 when soldiers were ambushed there by radicals. The British soldiers were trapped and unable to escape.
Kuno rushed through a hail of gunfire to kill the shooter since he has been trained to neutralize enemy forces.
His team was able to successfully complete the work as a consequence.
The brave dog’s back legs were hurt, regrettably. His mentor and the doctors had to help him as they took a chopper back to base. The dog was sent to the UK for medical attention on a Royal Air Force flight because of his several wounds.
In contrast, doctors were able to save the dog’s life. However, doctors had to amputate his back limb to stop the infection from spreading.
After receiving treatment, Kuno became the first military dog in the UK to receive specially constructed prosthetics to replace a missing paw and support a damaged limb. The British Defense Secretary claimed that Kuno changed the entire mission’s trajectory and saved a British soldier’s life.
Kuno received the Dickin Medal, the highest honor for skill in animal combat, from the veterinary group PDSA.
