A golden retriever that had been lost for two weeks was found by hikers in the freezing Wicklow Mountains.

Early in January, an 8-year-old retriever named Neesha became lost in the highlands of Willow National Park in Ireland. She was taken for a lengthy stroll by the owners along with Harley, a sheepdog. When they spotted the deer, both dogs ran away.

Harley ultimately returned (she was found in the parking lot the following day), but Neesha disappeared without a trace.

The dog vanished despite the owners searching the woods and using drones in the air. They placed a basket of dirty laundry close to where they last saw her in the hopes that Neesha would smell it and leave the park.

Additionally, the family posted the dog on social media. As time went on, there were no updates about Neesha.

The dog’s owner, Erina O’Shea Goetelen, stated, “We were searching for her for a week, then another, but we started to lose faith.” The family started to come to terms with the idea that their pet would never turn up again.

Then news broke: despite the icy and snowy conditions, doctors and occasional avid climbers Jean-François Bonnet and Ciara Nolan had found a puppy on top of one of Willow’s peaks, snuggled up between gigantic stones. According to her rescuers, Neesha was trembling all over and terrified. They tried to put her on her paws, but she kept falling.

Ciara loaded the retriever onto her husband’s back and followed him down the mountain for ten kilometers on a treacherous path.

The man repeatedly slid and fell on the ice. To keep the dog secure, Ciara wrapped a scarf to his knapsack. The couple immediately got in touch with Ash Animal Rescue.

The family’s quest for Neesha was already known to the rescue group. When they first saw her, they were in awe. The dog had survived for two weeks without food or drink on a chilly hillside! It sounded like a miracle.

Neesha was usually healthy, despite being severely underweight and dehydrated. “We were overjoyed; it was such a comfort”, Erina says.
