For the past year, Toby, a border terrier, and Amos, a staffy cross, have been inseparable. Toby protects Amos from other dogs and even helps him find his water bowl.
Amos was adopted from the rescue center last year by 27-year-old Jess Martin, who works in HR for the Cheshire Fire and Rescue service.
Toby was initially a little hesitant around Amos, but he ended up caring for, guarding, and becoming his only buddy.

Toby has been with Jess for the past nine years because her parents gave him to her as a birthday gift. When Amos was born at the dogs’ home last year, she adopted him.
Since her parents gave him to her for her 18th birthday, Jess has kept Toby for the past nine years. Last year, she also adopted Amos. She volunteered at home for dogs, where he was born.
Along with one of his sisters, Amos was born blind, so Jess knew it would be challenging to find him a home.
Toby was the best gift I’ve ever received, according to Jess.

We had some reservations about how tolerant he would be of Amos because he prefers his own space.
“We chose to foster Amos last year while he was receiving medical attention since I felt it would be difficult to find an owner. However, after a while, we realized we would never give him back.
“At first, Toby growled at him a few times before ignoring him. Amos was raised in a kennel and lacks the socialization skills necessary to get along with other dogs. After a few days, I saw Amos was having trouble finding his water bowl, so Toby gave him a little prod and assisted him.
In August, Jess and her freight agency partner Billy Howe made the decision to adopt the dog after realizing that Toby had become accustomed to him and had even come to regard him as his only companion.
Amos required an operation to remove his eyes, but fortunately, he had Toby by his side the entire time and was very protective of him.

Since then, Amos has prodded Toby whenever he needs assistance, and the two hikers have gone on numerous trips together.
As the owners mention. “Amos’s key problem is that other dogs avoid him when they approach him, which is understandable given that he cannot communicate in the same ways as them. As a result, he has no other companions.
Since Amos still feels a little uneasy in crowded places, we all go on expeditions to help him become accustomed to nature in a more serene environment.
“Toby, who we refer to as his “bodyguard,” is always by his side to keep him safe.”
