A medal is awarded to the courageous police dog who saved 38 lives.

Luna, a German shepherd, retired in June and celebrated with her first-ever vacation, going swimming and having fun on the beach. Last night’s Thin Blue Paw Awards ceremony honored Luna and PC Linda McBride, her handler from Police Scotland, with a Lifesaver award.

At the Thin Blue Paw Awards presentation last night (Thurs), German Shepherd Luna and her Police Scotland handler PC Linda McBride, 55, received the Lifesaver award. The pair, located in Larbert in Police Scotland’s Central Division, worked throughout the Stirling region for almost eight years.

When Luna was 12 weeks old in December 2012, they matched. After training, they received their licenses in September 2014.

After she retired, PC McBride gave Luna a well-deserved vacation and assured her that their unbreakable friendship, which saw them constantly look out for one another, would endure.

Luna would continue to work if given the option because she was a superb police dog to work with, according to PC McBride of Falkirk.

“I am extremely proud of her and all she has accomplished.”
