Every day, a super dog saves the life of a diabetic girl.

Gemma Faulkner, a type one diabetic who is 11 years old, is guarded by her brave puppy who can tell when her blood sugar levels have risen or fallen.
The helpful dog will notify Gemma’s parents by bringing one of the unique dog bones that are hidden throughout the house.
Gemma’s loving mother, Clare Faulkner, 42, of Chichester, West Sussex, relies on Polo every single day to preserve her daughter’s life.

Polo not only saves Gemma every day, but he has also rescued our family, according to Clare. “I could never have dreamed how great Polo was going to be,” she added.

For several years, Clare and her 41-year-old husband Julian set alarms for every two hours during the night to check on Gemma.
However, Clare’s mother saw a piece about a medical detecting dog in 2010.
“Mum called up to inform me about medical detection dogs and the incredible work they perform to save lives,” said Clare, a West Sussex County Council road safety specialist for kids.

She was aware that while we were getting by during the day, things got really tough at night. For a few months after having a baby, you are sleep deprived, but for me and Julian, this condition persisted since we were continuously worried about Gemma because she may suddenly fall into a coma.

The family was invited by the medical detection dog charity to come to meet Polo for the first time so they could determine whether he connected with Gemma.
The connection had been effective, so the Faulkner family returned for a week of training before taking the super dog home, and they learned the good news one week later.

The best dog a family could ever want, according to Clare, “Polo saves our daughter’s life every single day and there is no way to express our appreciation to him.”
Gemma must inject insulin every time she eats and prick her finger daily for her glucose testing.

Polo, like all of our dogs, has performed admirably in completing the extensive training necessary to make him a trustworthy detector of dangerously high or low blood sugar levels.
