A pit bull will soon be reunited with his family in this touching story.

Boy is more to his family than just a pet. More than just missing their dog, the Bonillas’ beloved brown-and-white pit bull terrier, it was terrible when Hurricane Harvey tore them apart. He belonged to my daughter, says Zoey Bonilla. She passed away tragically in February, and all that is left of her is Boy.

When Hurricane Harvey struck and took everything they owned—including their home, car, and grandchildren—Zoey, her grandchildren, and Boy were still getting used to life without Rose, Zoey’s daughter. Although things may be replaced, the fact that the hurricane kept them apart from Boy pained them more. But there is also hope in their tale.

She got in touch with her cousin, who knew how to get in touch with rescuers operating in flooded areas. Boy was fine even though it took some time for a rescuer to find him. Boy was awoken four days after the disappearance of everyone he knew by the sound of his rescuer kicking in the door.

Boy is safe in Houston with the Best Friends staff and volunteers who are caring for him, while Zoey and the children are safe today in Dallas. The family will come back together as soon as Zoey finds a new place to live. Since things broke down, Zoey’s sole focus has been on making sure they can reunite.

Boy has a large kennel, his own toys, and even a fan club at the Pet Reunion Pavilion. Although he arrived afraid, volunteers have spent hours reassuring him by giving him lots of cuddles.

They’ll be prepared for the day they’ve been anticipating since being forced to leave Boy behind the moment they move into their new house. We are eager to have him back among us, says Zoey. I can’t even begin to express my gratitude for everything you guys are done for Boy and us.
