Russian troops have been advancing on Ukrainian territory for several weeks, and the world has held its breath. The local animal shelters are in anguish: what will become of their proteges if the situation escalates?

There are a variety of animal protection associations, some of which fly the blue, white, and red flags. We spotlight Les Anges de Lumi, Remember Me France, and YouCare. As Ukraine’s bruised body deteriorates, gangrene, a necrosis, is spreading. Since February 2022, the Russian army has invaded its lands. People flee to neighboring countries or take shelter in underground shelters during war.

Amidst the shootings and bombings, animal shelters also stand. Dogs, cats, and other small animals may not understand the situation. In spite of this, they sometimes face many difficulties. Fortunately, they can rely on volunteers for support when they are scared and stressed. Every day, they risk their lives to provide them with the necessary care.

An association called Remember Me France relayed on its Facebook page the story of a Ukrainian family hiding in Kiev with 26 dogs, some of which belonged to them, some of which came from a shelter. Her Ukrainian volunteer called to offer assistance, but he couldn’t find transportation; small cars can only take two dogs, and large vehicles are requisitioned by the Ukrainian military.

If we were able to bring them to the Romanian border, we could take care of them all, humans and animals alike. According to the social network, they would not be separated.
