In Arizona last month, a small Chihuahua puppy collided with a huge Cholla cactus. As a result of the meeting, the puppy turned into a cactus. Spines covered the dog’s face and body.

A kind person who could not walk past a dog in trouble saw the baby, who was barely five months old. The good Samaritan gave Charlie, the wounded puppy, to the local animal control service. For help, they turned to volunteers who paid for Chihuahua treatment at Second Chance Animal Hospital. Finally, the puppy received the help it needed! In order to relieve his pain, he was given a sedative, and then the spines were removed one by one. As the puppy weighed only 5 pounds, the spines were everywhere – in the mouth, near the eyes, on the paws.

It was left under observation for two more days just in case the doctors missed a piece of the spine and an infection developed, or if a cactus got under its skin. The doctors sent Charlie to the family for temporary housing as soon as they were convinced he was safe. It would be stressful for such a baby to be alone in a clinic. The baby received all the necessary postoperative care here. Cholla Charlie was kept busy by the staff. A temporary owner described him as “the wiggliest, happiest, and most adorable five-month-old you’ve ever seen.”.

According to the doctors, the puppy was fortunate to have escaped all the troubles that await street puppies. His health was perfect. Charlie was ready to move on to a new home. There was only one thing left to do: find reliable hands. It was the Adoption Center that took him in. Within a couple of hours, the adorable dog will be at a new home near Scottsdale’s shelter. This is a very lucky puppy for him. Due to this, he survived on the streets, didn’t get sick, met the right person at the right time, who asked for help, underwent the operation easily, and was adopted by a loving family very quickly.
