A high-kill animal shelter has rescued an abandoned dog named “Covid”

There are several breeds in this dog, including the American Staffordshire Terrier. Covid was the dog’s previous name.

After being abandoned by his owner, Covid ended up in a shelter in Texas. There was an ear infection in the dog. In the shelter where the dog was placed, about 20-25 percent of animals are euthanized. A married couple working on an animal rescue project drew attention to Covid. Loretta, 48, of Gracie’s Project, had no plans to adopt such a dog at first. Despite her best efforts, she couldn’t resist.

There are many Pitties in Texas right now, and they are hard to adopt and move, but when I saw his face, I said, “Oh God, we have to save him,”” Loretta chuckles. Carl is now Covid’s new name at the shelter. Additionally, he was able to get rid of health issues.

Most importantly, he is a very cute dog! It’s just a big ol’ cuddle bug! He weighs almost 65 pounds and is full of love. “He loves to lie on your lap, kiss you, and wag his tail,” says the owner. Karl-Covid has just blossomed! Despite the fact that they are still searching for permanent owners, he is happy in his new home and receives as much attention as he wants.

Articles about empty shelters appeared in the media during the peak of the pandemic. As a result, people took animals to keep them company and to walk with them during the restrictions. Life has returned to normal now, people are returning to work and refusing pets. I have never seen anything like the number of animal surrenders in the last two months. Loretta bitterly explains that all these people had pets at home, and now they are returning them.

The temporary owner of abandoned Covid cannot comprehend how such a “big baby” could be abandoned. Currently, she is scouting for the best candidate to be Carl’s friend and companion, and he may move into his new house soon.
