What started as a typical stroll for two dogs evolved into an unexpected family reunion when long-lost siblings stumbled into each other on the street.
Even though they hadn’t seen one other since they were puppies, they moved in for a nuzzle and a big embrace the moment they recognized one another.
The two canines, Monty and Rosie, shared a litter in June of last year. According to Susan Killip, Rosie’s mother, there were six of them. But Monty and Rosie were consistently paired up.
Killip’s friends, who live in a nearby hamlet, looked after Rosie and Monty for a week before the two parted ways.
That is, until their unexpected meeting last month.
“It was quite sweet, they both just sprang up and held each other,” said Killip.
It was incredible that they could still recall one another after ten months apart.
Libby Pincher tweeted the sweet tale after posting a chat she had with her father that has since gone viral.
“So, Dave was out walking his dog, and there was a couple going towards him with a white version of his dog,” her father wrote of the endearing unexpected encounter. They are shown to be siblings from the same litter.
However, have a look at this instead of them simply playing as they do with other dogs.
“Dogs of the same breed typically draw close one another,” according to Tufts University. What is certain is that a dog can retain another dog’s scent for a very long time. However, it’s unlikely that we’ll ever be able to tell for sure if the dog is aware of the familial connection.
Whether or whether Monty and Rosie were aware that they were related, they now understand that a very significant someone lives nearby. Their parents will arrange a meeting once the coronavirus restrictions are lifted.
Killip pledged to continue communicating. We’ll go on dog walks together after this is over. “[It’s] a little difficult right now.”
