It was difficult to tell what kind of animal was hiding underneath this pile of matted fur. It was so painful to live with such a burden!

In a call to the Arizona Humane Society’s emergency veterinary service, an animal whose owner died is in desperate need of help. The shelter received an unknown animal hidden behind kilograms of dirty matted fur a few hours later. A weak meow confirmed it: it’s a cat!

The poor thing looked so awful, the medical staff didn’t know where to begin. Doctors said it was one of the most neglected cases they encountered. However, there were many of them in the practice of AHS. The organization’s employees rescue sick, injured, and domestically abused animals every day, and then find them new homes.

The unfortunate animal, Fluffer, behaved surprisingly calmly. The decision was made to shave her without injecting sleeping pills. Even a simple haircut can be nerve-racking for a cat, so she steadfastly endured inconvenience and pain.

It took about an hour for the 4-year-old cat to be freed from the burden she had carried for many years. There was a sweet and calm creature under a pile of matted fur. He behaved very affectionately, thanking people for their assistance. When applications began arriving from people wanting to adopt the cat, shelter staff barely had time to post her photo on social media.

All formalities were completed within two days, and the animal went to its new owner. She is ready to live an active, happy life – which she has been deprived of for a long time.
