Katherine Meara and her boyfriend wanted to adopt an elderly pet in Christchurch (New Zealand). When they saw Tuggly at one of the local shelters, they fell in love with his sad and shabby appearance.
The way he looked, I assumed he was over ten years old. “I decided to keep him because he looked so unkempt and sad compared to other cats.” Katherine recalls.Despite Tuggly’s five-year-old age when he entered the shelter, he had been through so much that he appeared much older than he actually was.
Katherine and her boyfriend took the cat home despite the fact that he was aggressive and withdrawn due to his past.To make the cat as comfortable as possible, they did everything they could. Over time, he realized that he was finally safe, and these people would not harm him.When we got Tuggly, he was incredibly skinny. He was malnourished to such an extent that even his coat became thin. Once we bought him an automatic feeder, he ate normally and quickly got used to the fact that he always has food,” Katherine said.
When Tuggly arrived at his new home six months ago, he was a completely different cat.With plump cheeks and a very playful disposition, he has become an affectionate, cheerful, fluffy pet.In winter, the cat enjoys lying by the fireplace while chasing butterflies in summer.
“After he got used to it and stopped being aggressive, he turned into the cutest and most affectionate cat,” Katherine said.
