Rocky spent countless days investigating a barren construction site before being found. The fearful border collie mix, aged one, watched suspiciously as animal rescuer Barth attempted to win his trust.
Now that Rocky and Barth are back together, it is clear how strong their bond is.
According to Shirley Zindler, founder of Dogwood Animal Rescue, “Barth had been leaving food out for him at the [construction] workplace for about a week or so before his arrest, but was never able to touch him.” He traveled a long distance to collect a trap from us, then drove back to the job site and managed to quickly get him in the trap.
So that Rocky may be saved and taken off the streets, the man then made the long drive back to the rescue.
According to Zindler, “[Barth] spent about an hour with Rocky, who was still rather afraid and shut down at that time.” He did, however, get comfortable there very quickly after making friends with the neighborhood dogs and sensing safety.
Weeks later, as Rocky awaited adoption, the rescue pleasantly surprised him with Barth.
It was the sweetest thing ever, Zindler remarked. “By this time, Rocky had really broken out of his shell and was interacting with others, but it was clear that he still thought about the friend who had fed him. He waggled his tail, kissed, and cuddled up as much as he could.
However, after a while, Barth needed to depart. Fortunately, the resilient dog quickly recovered.
He was content and contented by that point and had formed a bond with his foster family, according to Zindler. He enjoyed his time with his friend much, but he was equally content with his foster family.
Rocky wasn’t adopted by Barth, but a good-hearted couple did. In August, the former stray finally found his forever home. Rocky is excited to start a new chapter in his life and surely won’t forget Barth’s kindness.
According to Zindler, he gave them wags and kisses and appeared to be at peace with them. He now plays with the neighbor’s dog, who has become his new closest friend, according to the updates we have already received.
