Janet O’Connell rescued students from a burning school bus at Imagine Schools in West Melbourne, Florida, USA.The last day of the school year, a woman picked up the children from school and drove them home when she saw smoke coming from under the bus hood.
Immediately, Janet stopped the bus and began to evacuate the students.Almost destroying the bus, she managed to get all the children out before the light smoke turned into a raging flame.When the rescuers arrived, the driver and children were watching the fire from a safe distance. Electrical problems are believed to have caused the fire.Janet was praised by Imagine Schools’ administration for her quick reaction and quick wit, which kept children safe.
“All children are alive, healthy, and safe because of our driver’s quick and efficient actions,” school officials said.Janet, however, refuses to accept praise for her heroic act and doesn’t think she did anything exceptional.I spoke to Janet about what happened, and she said: “Brian, I did what I did because I love my kids very much,” he recalls.
